The family of the late Marcia Erskine, a distinguished journalist and communications professional, is proud to announce the establishment of the Marcia Erskine Scholarship Fund at The University of the West Indies (UWI) with a US$100,000/JMD$15M endowment. This scholarship, established in memory of Marcia's remarkable contributions to the field of journalism and public relations, aims to support and empower future female journalism students at UWI.

Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, Marcia Erskine was a trailblazer in the media industry, leaving an indelible mark on journalism across the Caribbean. With a degree in Mass Communication from UWI, Marcia embarked on a prolific career that spanned decades. She began her journey in the 1970s, working with renowned newspapers such as the Trinidad Guardian and the Trinidad Express before joining the Jamaica Gleaner in 1981.

Throughout her career, Marcia held various influential roles, including editor of The Tourist Guide at the Jamaica Gleaner and managing director of her Kingston-based PR firm, Marcia Erskine and Associates. She also provided invaluable communication support to prominent organizations such as the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, CIBC, British Airways, and ESPN Caribbean.

The Marcia Erskine Scholarship Fund will provide full tuition for three years of studies at UWI, ensuring that talented and deserving female students have the opportunity to pursue their passion for journalism. By honoring Marcia's legacy through this scholarship, the Erskine family seeks to inspire and support the next generation of female journalists, empowering them to make meaningful contributions to the media landscape of the Caribbean and beyond.
